11Feb 21 Goblin's Lear
Thursday 11 Feb 21
I got up around 8 and let the dogs out and then fed them. Then I drove back to the Goblin Valley and parked where I had the previous day. I made breakfast of ham and eggs, grits and a couple pieces of toast.
After cleaning up the dishes I hiked the 1.5 miles to the Goblin's Lear. It was to far for Wiggin with his arthritic leg so I left him and Pete in the RT. It was an easy hike and a beautiful day to be outside.
The Lear/Cave is just an area where there was a split in the rock face. There were some boulders to transverse to get to the entrance. At first I didn't think I could find away to the cave floor but I finally did. After checking it out I hiked a little further to Goblinet's Lear. Along the way I met two couples that were together and had a nice conversation with the two men. They had both worked at a papermill in Wisconsin. I told them my first experience with a papermill. It was on a TDY trip to Warner Robins Georgia. I extended my stay and drove to Savannah for the weekend. I fell in love with Savannah until they fired up the papermill. What a foul odor.
After checking out the smaller cave I hiked back to the RT. After letting the dogs out for a bit I secured everything and drove on to Hanksville. There was an outdoor museum there and I checked it out. It was right out of the 60s free love generation. I remember that back then I was drawn to the hippy culture. It has had an influence on me all my life. My love to live on the road is obviously part of it.
